Role Purpose 

Reporting to the Head of Insights and Data Monetisation within ShopriteX, the purpose of the Head of Supplier Insights role is to lead the service delivery of insights to Shoprite’s FMCG suppliers using ShopriteX insights technology platform. The role drives the commercial growth from insights monetisation to existing and new FMCG suppliers and advocates the transformative potential of customer-led insights. The role will be leading a team of insights service professionals to offer an insights service that delivers a compelling, differentiated experience for suppliers while creating new monetisation opportunities and improved insights value and performance for Shoprite.

The Head of Supplier Insights plays an integral role in building the insights service arm within the Insights and Data Monetisation team, applying expert knowledge to drive uptake of retail customer insights within FMCG marketing, category management and trade teams as its primary client base. The role will also be responsible to work with the national Shoprite Buying team to jointly engage suppliers to sell and grow income from insights monetisation services and to maintain the relationships with them as clients. The role will further collaborate with internal ShopriteX teams such as Sixty60, Xtra Savings rewards and Rainmaker Media teams to participate in the agile development and deployment of new insights capabilities and propositions, for example, working closely with the agile Squad Lead for Supplier Insights Monetisation to continuously develop and deploy insights product increments

Role Description 

  • Develop and execute a world-class supplier insights client experience that delivers value for suppliers and Shoprite.
  • Lead the delivery of a bespoke insights service, that drives Shoprite’s profile in the industry, results in a differentiated supplier experience and delivers on commercial objectives. 
  • Work with suppliers to understand their needs and craft an integrated insights strategy including priorities, budget and resources.
  • Lead conversations and demonstrations on the transformative potential of the insights technology platform.
  • Train and enable suppliers to access and fully leverage the insights technology platform.
  • Strategically partner with suppliers, enabling and supporting them to unlock insights and answer key business questions at speed.
  • Grow the business by building long-term strategic relationships with existing and new suppliers.
  • Drive sales KPI’s by managing all sales and services relating to the insight's technology platform, from prospecting to signing up and delivering service support.
  • Synthesise and present insights through high-impact, visually engaging reports and presentations to influence internal/external opinions and decisions.
  • Coach and guide the insights team to deliver powerful insights and build storytelling expertise, combining disparate pieces of data and insights into integrated, holistic business solutions.
  • Oversee the quality and integrity of all analysis, insights, business recommendations and presentation materials.
  • Collaborate with internal business stakeholders on business priorities, opportunities and projects and manage resources and budget against opportunities with the greatest potential.
  • Measure supplier satisfaction and advocacy and identify strengths, opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Benchmark market leaders, best-in-class technologies, and user insights to identify significant improvement opportunities and/or solutions for supplier insights.
  • Collaborate across teams and functions to ingrain and implement a data-driven insights culture that drives sound business decisions.

Qualifications and experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Business, Marketing or a related field – (essential).
  • +6 years experience in a similar capacity or role, with proven success championing the development and delivery of actionable retail insights that derives commercial value, grows income and shapes and informs strategic business decisions – (essential).
  • Experience working with and selling research or insights solutions to external clients - (essential).
  • Experience leading insights and research team in a progressive and high-growth data-driven environment – (essential).
  • Proficient in delivering compelling recommendations and insights to stakeholders – (essential).
  • Experience scoping, delivering and managing projects alongside suppliers/category teams – (essential).
  • Experience in the use of qualitative and quantitative research, insights and data tools – (essential).
  • Experience designing and delivering insights in a large retail or FMCG organisation – (essential).
  • Experience with retailer-specific data (POS, Retailer Rewards Card data etc.) – (highly desired).
